     We want to focus on a word that we all know and love, "freedom."  Webster's dictionary defines it by the root word "free."  "Not under the control or power of another; having liberty; independent; able to move in any direction; not burdened by obligations; not confined to the usual rules;"  "Independence" comes from the root word "independent" which is defined, "freedom from the influence or control of others; self-governing; self-determined; . . . not depending on another for financial support."  "Liberty" is defined in Webster's by stating, "freedom from slavery, captivity, etc."  Does this sound familiar with anything that you've heard in The Word of God?  We find in Luke 4:18-19 (KJV) these words:
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord."
And the Living Translation tells us like this:
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; he has appointed me to preach Good News to the poor; he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted and to announce that captives shall be released and the blind shall see, that the downtrodden shall be freed from their oppressors, and that God is ready to give blessings to all who come to him." 
     What would be some good news to you if you were poor?  ANSWER: That there is a way out of debt and bondage to one whom you owe.  To be "broken hearted" means "shabar" (shaw-bar'); a primitive root; to burst (literally or figuratively): break (down, off, in pieces, up), broken
([-hearted]), bring to the birth, crush, destroy, hurt, quench, quite, tear, view.  If someone was so hurt, broken, crushed and felt like the pressures of this World was about to burst them from the inside out, what would be what they would want to hear?  ANSWER:  There is One Who can heal your broken heart.  What would be the answer to someone who is enslaved by a person, persons, company, group or situation that has kept them in bondage?  ANSWER:  That the One Who has the ability to free them has arrived and announced He's here to do it!
     And if you were blind in the natural or in the spirit, what would be your antidote?  ANSWER:  The One Who could give you sight and revelation.  Or, if you were one who had been downtrodden and overwhelmed by those who oppress you in your life and mind, what would be your remedy?  ANSWER:  The One Who could set you free from captivity and hand you liberty right to your being came to meet you and rescue you in person.  And if you were one of the ones who really needed the Year of Jubilee or the Acceptable Year of The Lord to happen in your life, where all debts are canceled, all captivity is set free and anything that has been taken or stolen is all made whole in your life and situation (See Leviticus 25,) what would be your solution?  ANSWER:  To get with The One Who can make the promise happen for you, One Who will ALWAYS KEEP HIS WORD!    
     Jesus Christ of Nazareth came to give us all freedom!  He was born on planet Earth, lived, had a Ministry and died, ALL FOR OUR FREEDOM!  He was and IS amazing at His task!  He loves to rescue His people.  He longs to see His people take hold of all that they possess in their inheritance and live in their freedom that He paid so dearly for.  He does not want His people to lack one thing.  He does not want to see His people sick, blinded, captive, broken hearted, in debt, crushed, destroyed, poor, bruised or bound to anyone or anything!  That's what He is telling us He came for in Luke 4:18-19!  Jesus got up in the synagogue, opened the scroll, read from Isaiah 61 (which is where we get Luke 4:18-19,) SPOKE HIS DECLARATION AND MISSION OF FREEDOM, LIBERTY AND INDEPENDENCE FOR HIS PEOPLE, handed the attendant the scroll and sat down.  He spoke out loud His charge from a written document, which is The Word of God and then carried it out by The Spirit in the natural.  And He completed His freedom mission entirely!  All that is left is FOR US TO RECEIVE AND OPERATE IN WHAT HE PAID AND LEFT FOR US TO LIVE IN! 
     Here in America we celebrate a National Holiday that is entitled Independence Day.  Most Americans celebrate this Holiday with cookouts, parades and fireworks.  The true reason for this National Holiday is to celebrate the day the Declaration of Independence was signed, which was on July 4, 1776 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  The U.S. consisted of 13 colonies under the rule of England's King George III.  The U.S. colonies wanted their freedom from England.  The U.S. colonists did not have any representation in the English Parliament and had no say in what went on.  As the unrest grew in the colonies, King George III sent extra troops to help control of what he thought was rebellion into the U.S.  In 1774 the 13 colonies sent delegates to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to form the First Continental Congress.  The delegates of the U.S. colonies were unhappy with England and its treatment to them, but were not yet ready to declare war.

     So, a document was authored that stated what the representatives of the 13 colonies of the U.S. were already saying and declaring to each other"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness . . ."  (Portion of the Declaration of Independence.)  These representatives of the 13 colonies that we had in 1776 put on paper what they wanted to declare and what were they declaring?  Theirs and many other's INDEPENDENCE!  They were declaring the people's freedom, life and liberty!  God tells us over and over in The Word of God that we can speak into existence what He says we can have in His Word.  (See Mark 11:22-25 and Matthew 21:21 for just a few.)  Using our words to declare our freedom is CRUCIAL!  God says "if anyone says . . . and does not doubt in his heart . . . what he says will happen . . ."  Jesus declared our freedom and we have to do the same!  We can't just sit around and let all that freedom that Jesus paid for pass us by in life!  
     Where would we be if those representatives of the Declaration of Independence did not do something about getting our freedom from England?  More importantly, what will happen if we don't do what we can to walk in the freedom that we already possess?  We must declare our freedom!  We must declare our liberty that The Word promises us!  We must make our declarations of independence!  Jesus stood up in that synagogue and declared the freedom that was written.  The representatives of the Declaration of Independence stood up for freedom and wrote what was being declared.   And it's time for us, The Church, The Bride of Christ to stand up and declare what God says about our situations.  We should declare with our mouths what He says about our finances being free!  We have got to declare with our mouths what God says about our bodies and minds, being free from captivity!  We must speak and declare to our situations and command them to be delivered and have liberty!  We are the ones who have been left here by Jesus to declare our independence from the tyranny of our enemy - the devil!  NO MORE CAPTIVITY!  Jesus came to set the captives free!  "Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom."  (2 Corinthians 3:17 (NIV)).

     After the Declaration of Independence was drafted and signed, copies of the Declaration was distributed.  The first newspaper to print the Declaration was the Pennsylvania Evening Post on July 6, 1776.  On July 8th the Declaration had its first public reading (it was spoken out loud to be heard) in Philadelphia's Independence Square.  Twice that day the Declaration was read to cheering crowds and pealing church bells.  Even the bell in Independence Hall was rung.  The "Province Bell" later would be renamed "The Liberty Bell."  This "freedom and liberty" symbol rung out with cries to the people that freedom, liberty and independence were now theirs.  I believe that the Liberty Bell has a prophetic inscription on it which reads, "Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land Unto All the Inhabitants Thereof."

     This most famous bell that rang out for all to hear that freedom was now the people's, is an example of how we are to sound out loud and ring for all to hear that God's people are free!  We have to "proclaim" our liberty!  We have to "proclaim" our covenant rights out loud to our enemy!  We have to "proclaim" to others and tell them The Good News that they, with Jesus can be free too!  Let us be bells ringing for all to see and hear and let us all "Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land Unto All the Inhabitants Thereof!"  Praise The Lord Jesus!
      The cost of freedom is expensive!  We find in Psalm 102:18-20 (NIV,) "Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord: 19 "The LORD looked down from his sanctuary on high, from heaven he viewed the earth. 20 to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death."  Our God seen from heaven our captivity and heard our cries.  He knew that we needed a Deliverer.  And He knew that He was The Only One Who could do the job.  He had the perfect plan and He was willing to come and rescue and free us all!  What a brave and gallant God we serve!  And this freedom mission would cost Him.  It would and did cost Him EVERYTHING!  He laid down His life so that we could be completely free!    
     Jesus would declare His mission of freedom to His people while He walked on this Earth to His disciples and others.  And He then fulfilled His Words of freedom and independence.  He bled in the Garden of Gethsemane, at the whipping post, during all of the beatings, from the crown of thorns and all the way to Calvary.  Our freedom cost God the most expensive commodity in Heaven - Jesus' Blood.  We can never repay Him for what He has done for us.  We CAN give Him our lives.  We CAN live in the freedom He has paid for.  We CAN fulfill the destinies on our lives and live in the fullness of our Blood Covenant with God.  For, if we can remember this, in Galatians 5:1 (NIV) it tells us, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of  slavery."  You want to know how to celebrate the freedom that God has given us?  Get in The Word, find out what we are entitled to and live it out to the fullest.  And most importantly STAY in the freedom!  Don't allow yourself to be "burdened again by a yoke of slavery."  Once you are free STAY IN freedom!  Don't allow yourself to be yoked again by slavery!  Declare your Independence!  Declare your freedom and live IT OUT LOUD FOR THE LORD!
